What sort of dive knife should you choose?

When choosing a dive knife, the important determinant of the kind of knife you will acquire is your first use of it.

  • Sharp Tips
  • Blunt Tips
  • Line Cutting Notches
  • Line Cutting Notches
  • Metal Handles
  • An ergonomic handle

Ideally, you want to buy a knife that has a mixture of both good and serrated edges for the most versatility in the application. The exact edge is excellent for making substitutes including fishing lines, trash, and similar. The serrated part of your knife is better satisfactory for sawing open materials including rope and kelp.

1.sharptipSharp Tips

are intended for piercing and cutting and are typically favored by the spearfishing area. The downside of them is that they are active and can possibly cause more damages, or wrong things if they become unsheathed.

2. Blunt Tips

are better satisfied with digging, moving, and cutting which is more the behaviour you will be presenting as a scuba diver. The blunt edge means the knife is usually safer to handle than the sharp match.

3. Line Cutting Notches

are a handy piece of your dive knife as it is a fast and positive way to free yourself from involvement from casting lines and small lines with little work.

4 Metal Handles

are excellent for grasping your buddy’s care when you bang them on your tank, however, they are less easy to hold and can potentially slip out of your hands.

5 Black Blades

look wonderful and are practically transparent to aquatic life. The downside of them is if you leave a black blade, it might suit practically transparent to you too getting it more challenging to get.

6. An ergonomic handle

is necessary for your handling support and fast grip way so make certain to test out whereby the point feels in your hand ere buying it.

How do you attach your dive knife?

When scuba diving, you will both have a knife that connects to your leg, material, or maybe one which you keep in your opening. More general dive knives are typically completely satisfied on leg straps, while also small ones can be easily connected to your BCD or airlines. The most valuable part about the area of your knife is that you should be able to move it quickly with each hand.

  • BCD or Hose mounted knife
  • Leg mounted dive knives
  • Foldable dive knives

1, BCD or Hose mounted knife

has the advantage of being securely connected to your property and need minimum effort to get to take with you on your dive. These knives are typically shorter, denser, and more radiant. You do still have to get to liquidate them and clean them individually from your property to guarantee they stay bright and rust-free.

2. Leg mounted dive knives

can be also cumbersome and possibly cause confusion issues, however, many athletes and free competitors opt for them due to their size and handling like Tomb Raider.

3. Foldable dive knives

have the advantage of being more miniature and an excellent option if you wish to store it in your BCD pocket. People are also probably more reliable as they cannot become unsheathed and beat someone without being purposefully banged public.

If you now have a Scuba Diving Knife or you just got one, drop a remark in the remark section here and share your experience with it.

HOW WE TEST?

Our test was intended to measure each knife’s cutting capacity, ergonomics and fitness for dive use, and its durability and corrosion resistance.

  • Cutting Ability
  • Ergonomics
  • Durability
  • Corrosion resistance:

1. Cutting Ability

We assessed the capacity to cut into handheld loops of 4 materials: heavy-duty (.095-inch) plastic trimmer line; 1⁄4-inch round polypropylene; 3⁄8 manila; and 1⁄2-inch three-strand spun polypropylene. We chose these because they’re typical of the stuff in the streets and nets found by divers.

If a sword could cut a line in a free pass, a second-density was tried. After all four lines were cut, the knife was used to make 20 repeated cuts. Then the four cuts were tried again to assess whether the shoot had lost any of its edges.

2. Ergonomics

Knives were obtained for the performance of their grips, sheaths, and locking device, including:

  • Protection of sheath or folding lock
  • Ease of raising and returning from the case (with and without gloves)
  • Safety/plenty of purchase when making
  • Feel, fit and end of the knife

3. Durability

These experiments were intended to fix a knife’s resistance to cracking or rotting.

Pry test: The blade was included 1 inch into a block of wood and a 10-pound rock was stretched from the top of the name to assess its health.

4. Corrosion resistance:

This was designed to replicate a time of diving accompanied by gear support, as well as places wherever rinsing gear strength is held. Knives were immersed in salt water for six hours, then rinsed in freshwater, dismantled where possible, and dried.

Next, the knives were immersed and left in salt water for 24 hours, then rinsed, disassembled, and dried. After each submersion, knives were thoroughly examined for corrosion.
