Damascus steel is steel built with a twisted surface pattern created by hammer-wielding layers of steel and iron supported by repeated forging and heating, used mainly for Damascus knife and sword blades. It has been considered the Damascus steel goes as far back as the 4th century B.C. Today Folding pocket knives, butterfly knives, fixed blade knives and swords are still made in Damascus steel.
